Jay J. Przybyla has worked for Collision Safety Engineering, L.C., since 2005 investigating and reconstructing automotive accidents as well as working on other automotive safety and design issues. Before joining Collision Safety Engineering, L.C., Mr. Przybyla worked as a state trooper for the Utah Highway Patrol – experience that lends a unique perspective to his work. As a trooper, he focused on interdiction, DUI detection, and accident investigations. He was a member of Utah’s Multi-Discipline Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.), having completed or assisted with accident investigations and reconstructions all over the State of Utah. He worked on several high profile cases in which his reconstructions assisted in securing felony convictions. Mr. Przybyla has had extensive experience testifying in criminal cases as well as some civil cases.
He has taught classes in accident investigation, photogrammetry, PhotoModeler, and accident reconstruction, and has been a guest lecturer at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah on accident reconstruction and transportation safety. Mr. Przybyla has expertise in areas of accident reconstruction, scene surveying, photogrammetry, crash data recorder downloads, automotive lamp analysis, photography, and roadway design.

Mr. Przybyla earned his B.S. in civil engineering from Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, in 2001. He earned his M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, in 2009. He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in civil engineering at the University of Utah. Mr. Przybyla has certifications from Northwestern University Traffic Institute in Traffic Accident Reconstruction, Advanced Traffic Accident Reconstruction, and Heavy Vehicle Reconstruction. He has also been certified by the Utah Department of Public Safety in Automotive Accident Reconstruction and as a P.O.S.T. instructor.
